Allison Alsup, "Old Houses"

A short story, only five pages long, that tells of a small neighborhood's annual block party and the backstory of the murder that had occurred in one of the homes thirty years prior.

"Old Houses" was first published in the New Orleans Review and subsequently included in the 2014 O'Henry Prize Stories.

Favorite Lines:
"Houses that know who they are..."

"They are fond of the phrase original to the house."
