Terrence Cheng, "The Boy"

Read Terrence Cheng's short story, "The Boy" in the Fall 2009 issue of Glimmer Train. It is about a Chinese immigrant boy's difficulties disappointing his parents and the apparent anger the boy harbors towards his father who left the him and his mother in China for years until he earned enough money to smuggle them into the United States. It is written in 3rd person pov close limited. The change in the story seems to be when the boy--he never gets a name--stands up to his father in a physical altercation.
