Fiona Helmsley, "The Transition"

In about 350 words, the author shows us the life of a pregnant with twins young woman who is in more than one transition period. She thinks that she's moving into a higher hierarchical stage with Jose. She's also transitioning from drug user. The story takes place in just a few minutes while waiting for the medical cab that will take the young woman to the methadone clinic. The story is told in first-person but not by the baby mama.

"The Transition" was published in DIGGING THROUGH THE FAT | ripping out the heart.
