Peter Levine, "Last Flight"

This third-person short story takes place in the first-class section of a flight in very thick fog. Alice, on her way to interview for a medical residency, and Stuart, going where we do not know. They begin talking and Stuart lets Alice believe that his son, Tom, is still alive. As the story progresses, we learn that Stuart placed burdens of expectations on Tom and we are never told how Tom died but we do see that possibly he was unhappy.

"Last Flight" is included in the summer 2013 issue of The Missouri Review. This issue is about ghosts. An interesting essay about Houdini with images is also included.
