Short, short story, 196 words, reminding us of the human capacity for evil, the sort of story that makes one cringe. I wonder how the drill sergeant became so evil and cruel? As much as I wish and hope for better, evil has always existed and always will. The story is bleak and the only positive for the narrator is that the drill sergeant moves on to someone else, but the evil continues and I wonder if it's going to expand outward via the victims. Of course it does.
