Miroslav Penkov, "A Picture With Yuki"

This first-person POV story is divided into 13 sections alternating between back story and front story. An infertile young couple, husband Bulgarian and wife Japanese, experiences tragedy before their scheduled in-vitro procedure in Sofia.

Maybe "good things happen(ed) to good people" and maybe they do not.

"A Picture with Yuki" is the current One Story issue, number 148.

I was surprised to learn that Penkov teaches at University of North Texas. Maybe he'll give a reading sometime.
