Shobha Rao, "Kavitha and Mustafa"

Third person point of view story takes place in Pakistan on a train that is being robbed. Kavitha and her husband, Vinod, have been married for ten years. Their only child was stillborn. While he's mostly kind to her, there is no passion or even flicker of life in his eyes. There are several people in their train berth and three robbers come aboard and steal everyone's jewelry. While the violence is not  gratuitous, it is a story about how two people escape from the train.

The writing style is engaging and published first in Nimrod magazine and then selected for the 2015 edition of the Best American Short Stories.
