Kathryn Staley's, "Marty"

"Marty," a short story published in the Spring 2010 issue of Ploughshares, is written in 1st person POV and explores that  experience when someone from a person's past emerges and evokes nostalgia. Marty calls Julie forty-one years after they were in high-school together, confesses he'd always loved her and when she didn't reciprocate after all these years, he killed himself. It is a pretty great story in the way she captures the subtleties of emotion.

Staley is a beekeeper and studying to be Jungian psychoanalyst.
